Princess Kitana, Kintaro, General Reiko, and Jade lead the Emperor's first wave invasion force of Outworld warriors and Netherrealm demons, laying siege against the Wu Shi monastery, but are repelled by Kung Lao and Special Forces cybernetically enhanced Jackson Briggs and NYPD officer Kurtis Stryker. Animation and animated by Studio Mir, Boon returned from the predecessor as creative consultant. This one just threw everything into a trash.Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is a 2021 American direct-to-video adult animated martial arts film, directed by Ethan Spaulding from a screenplay by Jeremy Adams, based on the Mortal Kombat franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, it is the second installment in the Legends series and a direct sequel to Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge (2020). MK9 and X weren't perfect, but they showcased how well these characters can be portrayed and made me actually give a damn about the story. I know it's a fighting game and all, but if a game has a story mode and advertises it so much, you expect it to be at least ok. Johnny Cage growing out of being childish dick and becoming a responsible father and husband? Pointless. Sub Zero and Scorpion overcoming their rivalry, building peace and becoming good friends? Pointless. Hanzo getting an emotional, though quite rushed send-off and passing his knowledge to his younger self? Pointless. Jax overcoming his pain and regrets and deciding to change his mind and helping Raiden and others to fight? Pointless. Oh yeah, they also decided to completely rewrite the history in the end, therefore making all the character development and growth these characters had pointless. Then the game came out, and they literally replace the dark Raiden with a young version in the first half, taking away any emotional impact there was to begin with. Then we had this timeline manipulation which brought together young versions of character, which is a great idea as it can be a brilliant way to showcase how the characters have changed since MK9. It would have been so impactful to see the character arc, that started in MK9, come to a satisfying conclusion. The dark Raiden had so much potential, I mean, imagine how great a story would be with Raiden constantly questioning his morals and methods, overcoming his darkness. I mean, can you blame me? There was so much promise here. After how great the story was in Injustice 2, I thought Neatherrealm really stepped up their game in that regard, so I had high hopes for MK11's story mode.
